I interviewed my grandma because I've heard some of her stories and I wanted to know more about her life. My grandmother was born in Marshall, Texas in October 2,1945.She born in a large family with eleven children, 5 girls and 6 boys. She was happy with her life even though her family w
as poor and she didn't have a lot of stuff to do.She mostly played with her brothers and sisters or she would do lots of reading and math because she loved to go to school. She had a hard time getting to school because her family lived outside the city limits and she couldn't take the bus because there were no buses would go there.She had to walk for about an hour everyday in order to go to school.
My grandma lived on a farm and she had to help her parents a lot. She would help pick the crops and she w
ould help cook. On the farm there were pigs, horses,and chickens.My grandma mostly liked where she lived, but there were some parts she didn't like. She didn't like when her dad or her brothers would take a chicken and cut its neck because their bodies would move around and she didn't like hurting animals.
My grandma and her family moved to Fort Worth Texas. She didn't like where they moved to at first because she wasn't used to being in the city, but she started to like it more when she began school again. She liked this school because it was closer to home and she liked the teachers more.
After high school she got some money from her parents and her and one of her sisters moved to Houston, Texas for about one year. She liked living with her sister, but she decided to save enough money to go to California and start a new life. When she was getting ready to leave it was hard for her to say goodbye to her family that had been by her side her whole life. She was really nervous and excited about moving to San Francisco. The plane ride here scared her because she had never been on a plane before.
When she got to San Francisco she was nervous and scared because she was on her own.
Not long after she moved here, she got a job working for a insurance company called Blue Shield.
She really liked her job because she met intresting people and became close with them. She told me a story about when she was going home from work and miskakenly got on the wrong bus and got lost. She didn't know what to do so she was asked people how to get back to were she worked. People weren't helping her so then she went to a place to eat and calm down.When she was leaving, she asked a man for help and she explained the whole story to him. The man was nice and helped her out and he explained where to go. After about 2 years she ot married to this man and that ma
n became my grandpa. After about three years of marriage in January 29, 1970 my grandma gave birth to my mother. My grandma and my grandpa enjoyed taking care of my mom and seven years later she gave birth to my aunt. The sad thing is that not long after my aunt was born my grandpa died and it was really hard for her because she had to take care of my mom and aunt.My grandma's sister helped her out by taking care of my mom and aunt while my grandma was working. This is how she got through this hardship.
I really think my grandma is a big part in my life and if she wasn't in my life as she is, I would be a different person. I love my grandma so much and I don't know what I would do with out her.
